We "Owl" Had a Great Time!

Here's a peek at what we did at July's Simply Crafts:
Silly Owls!

They all turned out really well!
The crafters were really creative with their materials! We had sequins, scrap book paper, foam hearts, regular and puffy paint. And our newcomers from last month's craft night came back! (Yay!) We also gained a couple more crafters which is fantastic! Everyone is welcome back next month as well as anyone else who likes crafts. We'll see you next month!

Is This Your Top Ten?

Top Ten List from BookMovement.com
  1. Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy by E L James
  2. The Paris Wife by Paula McLain
  3. Defending Jacob by William Landay
  4. What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarity
  5. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
  6. The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom
  7. Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand
  8. In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson
  9. Room by Emma Donoghue
  10. Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford
These are all popular books at the Libraries, with the Fifty Shades Trilogy being the most popular! But, are they your Top Ten? Follow these links to the CMRLS catalog and you can read summaries, reviews, and even a few pages or the entire first chapter. That should give you an idea of whether you want to place a hold on one or all the titles!

If these titles aren't available at the moment, go ahead and place a hold; then ask staff to suggest a title or two that are in the same genre or by the same author. We'll find you "something good to read" while you wait for one of these ten.

Would you like to search on your own? You can look at the same tools that library staff use.
  • Need help with the new catalog? Ask staff how to search by author, title, subject, or do keyword searches for genre, setting, or even limit the publication date to the last one or two years. You can also make lists of books that you may want to check out later or lists of books you've read, directly from the catalog.
  • NoveList is a great tool in finding "something good to read". You do need your Library Card barcode number to sign in, but after that you can look around, search by title, genre, or author.
  • From the same screen you can check to see if your Library has the book, see books that are similar, read about the author, even read reviews and link to GoodReads. Use GoodReads to write your own review of books that you've read so other patrons can see what you liked or didn't like! CMRLS Libraries has it's own GoodReads page. Feel free to "friend" us and comment!
Still need help finding "something good to read"? Use Facebook to contact us at CMRLS.Libraries or use the Customer Service email address custsvc@cmrls.lib.ms.us or email form to ask us to suggest titles. You tell us what you've liked in the past - a couple of books or authors, even movies - we'll find something!

Happy READing!

Chapter One Book Club @ Pearl

Join us for July's Chapter One Book Club where we will discuss The Widower's Tale by Julia Glass:

Seventy-year-old Percy Darling is settling happily into retirement: reading novels, watching old movies, and swimming naked in his pond. But his routines are disrupted when he is persuaded to let a locally beloved preschool take over his barn. As Percy sees his rural refuge overrun by children, parents, and teachers, he must reexamine the solitary life he has made in the three decades since the sudden death of his wife. With equal parts affection and humor, Julia Glass spins a captivating tale about a man who can no longer remain aloof from his community, his two grown daughters, or—to his great shock—the precarious joy of falling in love.

The club will meet Thursday, July 19 @ 6 p.m. at the Pearl Public Library. We will have door prizes and refreshments! We hope to see you there!

Hello crafters! Guess “whooooooooo” is making an owl craft? You are! We decided to keep with the “nocturnal” and “night” themes for summer reading. Actually, we’ll take any excuse to make more owls!

This month, we are transforming a canvas into a pretty little owl with paint, foam, sequins, and scrapbooking paper. The fun starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 10 at the Pearl Library. This program is free with all materials provided. We hope to see you there!

Florence's Night With The Stars

The Florence Library would like to thank our patrons. Our A-list was out in style last Thursday night for Florence Library's Night With The Stars, featuring Oscar award winning movie "Pillow Talk" starring Rock Hudson and Doris Day. A great time was had by all and the paparazzi were out to catch our stars on the red carpet.
