They all turned out really well!

The crafters were really creative with their materials! We had sequins, scrap book paper, foam hearts, regular and puffy paint. And our newcomers from last month's craft night came back! (Yay!) We also gained a couple more crafters which is fantastic! Everyone is welcome back next month as well as anyone else who likes crafts. We'll see you next month!

That should give you an idea of whether you want to place a hold on one or all the titles!

If these titles aren't available at the moment, go ahead and place a hold; then ask staff to suggest a title or two that are in the same genre or by the same author. We'll find you "something good to read" while you wait for one of these ten.

Would you like to search on your own? You can look at the same tools that library staff use.

• Need help with the new catalog? Ask staff how to search by author, title, subject, or do keyword searches for genre, setting, or even limit the publication date to the last one or two years. You can also make lists of books that you may want to check out later or lists of books you've read, directly from the catalog.
  
• NoveList is a great tool in finding "something good to read". You do need your Library Card barcode number to sign in, but after that you can look around, search by title, genre, or author. 
• From the same screen you can check to see if your Library has the book, see books that are similar, read about the author, even read reviews and link to GoodReads. Use GoodReads to write your own review of books that you've read so other patrons can see what you liked or didn't like! CMRLS Libraries has it's own GoodReads page. Feel free to "friend" us and comment!

Chapter One Book Club @ Pearl

Join us for July's Chapter One Book Club where we will discuss The Widower's Tale by Julia Glass:

Simply Crafts @ Pearl

Hello crafters! Guess “whooooooooo” is making an owl craft? You are! We decided to keep with the “nocturnal” and “night” themes for summer reading. Actually, we’ll take any excuse to make more owls!

This month, we are transforming a canvas into a pretty little owl with paint, foam, sequins, and scrapbooking paper. The fun starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 10 at the Pearl Library. This program is free with all materials provided. We hope to see you there!

Florence's Night With The Stars

The Florence Library would like to thank our patrons. Our A-list was out in style last Thursday night for Florence Library's Night With The Stars, featuring Oscar award winning movie "Pillow Talk" starring Rock Hudson and Doris Day. A great time was had by all and the paparazzi were out to catch our stars on the red carpet.

A Night With The Stars. June 28th at 4:00pm - 6:30pm at the Florence Library. We will start the Night off with a walk down the Red Carpet. Birds of Prey @ Pearl

Join Pat Lowrance of Mississippi Wildlife Rehabilitation as she presents Birds of Prey Tuesday, June 19 from 2 – 3 p.m. at the Pearl Library. Featured birds include the great horned owl, red tail hawk, falcon, and screech owl. This program is free and open to the public. We hope to see you there!

Craft Night @ Pearl

We had a great time at Simply Crafts this past Tuesday! The wreaths turned out nice -- we used used book pages, stamps, and a hot glue gun. We had some newcomers who swore they'd come to the next meeting. We hope to see them and everyone else who would like to join the fun at our next meeting!!

Chapter One Book Club @ Pearl

Join us for Chapter One Book Club where we will discuss this month's book, Lowcountry Summer by Dorothea Benton Frank. Full of family dysfunction and southern humor, once you're in it, Cecelia says she couldn't put it down.
Here's the book summary:

Simply Crafts @ Pearl

We love books! We urge you to read them, enjoy them, learn from them... destroy them! Destroy them? Destroy that old book and make a craft out of it! (Please don't destroy our books; you'll be fined.)
At next week's craft night, we will be making a smaller version of the wreath shown above. And if you haven't already guessed, it's made out of book pages. Don't worry, you won't have to destroy any of your books; we already have some old ones you can use. We will meet from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 12 at the Pearl Library. This program is free with all materials provided and open to the public. We'll see you there!

Ghost Hunters @ Pearl

I've always wondered if there were any ghosts in the library! Good thing the MS Society of Paranormal Investigators will be here at the Pearl Library Tuesday, June 5 from 6-7 p.m. We'll find out how ghost hunters conduct investigations, what equipment they use, how they find locations, what successes they've had, and maybe if there are any ghosts in this area! This program is free and open to the public. We hope to see you there!

Brown Bag Lunch @ Pearl

Join us for our Brown Bag Lunch Friday, May 25 @ 12 p.m. where Mississippi author, Forrest L. Cooper, will discuss his book, Looking Back Mississippi: Towns and Places.

For the past three decades, historian and archivist Forrest Lamar Cooper has written a regular column for Mississippi Magazine about unusual, fascinating aspects of the state's history, culture, products, and people. Whether describing the Jubilee Beverage Company of Jackson, the origins of the Mississippi State Fair, a Mississippi veteran who fought at Iwo Jima, or Biloxi's Riviera Hotel, Cooper's "Looking Back" columns are thoroughly researched and written with verve and clarity.

Looking Back Mississippi: Towns and Places collects thirty-nine of Cooper's best essays on the various cities, towns, dwellings, parks, and institutions of historical resonance. Covering all corners of the state, from the mid-1800s to the 1930s, the volume offers an engaging, convivial alternative history of Mississippi, one that emphasizes the obscure and small-scale over the big picture.
