April at the Rez
Happy Spring all! The librarians at the Northwest Point Reservoir Library are happy that winter is over, and that spring is here. After a long winter, it is great to be able to go out and enjoy nature! We hope that while you are out this spring you will be safe and enjoy the clean and wonderful air of Mississippi. We also hope that you will enjoy the many fun and exciting events that we have planned for our patrons. Please stop by the library when you are out and enjoy the scenery while you are checking out the latest works by your favorite author!
Bird Watching
Springtime is when many of the birds that have flown south for the winter return to the Ross Barnett Reservoir area to build their nests and to raise their young. While there are also many other bird breeds that stay in the area year-round there are many that will migrate farther south to live during the winter months. With the return of the various birds and the lengthening days of spring and summer, the Northwest Point Reservoir Library will be hosting a bird-watching club. Logs will be provided for patrons to keep tabs of which birds they have seen while they are looking. Binoculars will be provided as well but patrons are also encouraged to bring their own. A birdhouse will be attached to the window of the library so that younger patrons can enjoy watching a bird family build their nest. We hope you can join us for a fun-filled spring and summer of fun and relaxation.
Spring Visitors
This week we have been having some visitors from Canada. A pair of Canada Geese have recently been spotted hanging around on a Spring Break visit to Millcreek right behind the Library. When I tried to go visit the new guests, they were not too happy to be bothered and clearly wanted to be left alone. I was able to get a few great pictures of them! Stop by the Library to visit with our feathered friends from the north.
High Noon Book Club
Join us April 18th at 12:00 noon for another lunch break filled with fine dining, fine friendships, and even finer literature as we have another exciting meeting of the High Noon Book Club. This month, instead of choosing a book for the entire club to read, we decided to mix things up a bit and have a Book Report club meeting. All members are encouraged to read a book of their choosing and then bring it to the book club meeting and give a brief oral summary of the plot and then tell why they liked it or disliked it. Other members who have read the same book are encouraged to give their opinion of the book as well. We look forward to great book discussions.
Comic Con
Join us at the Pearl Public Library on April 13th for a fun-filled day. There will be artists, authors, trivia, art contest, robotics expo, laser tag, costume contest, video game tournament, tabletop gaming, drawing workshops, vendors, and more! Food items will be on sale from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Rankin County Libraries!
Loose Knit Group
Join us every Tuesday during April from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for the Loose Knit Group. We will each work on our own projects as we share our knowledge of crocheting and knitting. We hope you can join us!
Family Movie Thursday
Join us Thursday, April 25th at 11:00 a.m. for a special Easter showing of the Veggie tales movie An Easter Carol, starring Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato. An Easter Carol tells the story of the greedy Mr. Nezzer who wants to knock down a beloved church to build his new amusement park only to be stopped by the ghost of his grandmother who reminds him of the true meaning of Easter. The movie is not rated which means it is suitable for the entire family. Free popcorn will be provided, courtesy of the Friends of the Northwest Point Reservoir Library.
National Library Week Story Time
Join us Wednesday, April 10th at 11:00 a.m. for a special National Library Week Story Time event! We will celebrate this important week by reading books about libraries and librarians and their important place in the community.
Library Closing
The Northwest Point Reservoir Library will be closed Monday, April 29th for Team Development day. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience and would like to thank our loyal patrons for their patience as we learn new skills to better serve you.
Book Bubbles with Uno
While taking his bubble blowing break one afternoon our library goldfish Uno said that his friends in the Ross Barnett Reservoir had been noticing a change in the weather in the past few weeks. It is during this conversation that we also started talking about spring being on its way as the days are getting slowly warmer and just a little bit longer.
Closing remarks
We hope that all our patrons have a great month of April. As always, we look forward to seeing each one of you and serving you in the next months of spring and summer. We are especially looking forward to our upcoming events for our Summer Library Program in which all ages are welcome to attend and take part. We have numerous guest performers and lecturers planned. The events are free to the public unless otherwise specified. We look forward to seeing you!
