Celebrating Youth Creativity All Month At The Pearl Public Library!

March is National Youth Art Month.

We take that very seriously at the Pearl Public Library!

This is the twelfth year that the library has invited Pearl School District students to canvass the library with their wonderful creations!

Below are just a few of the displayed art pieces these talented students of all ages have created!

The art stays up all month long for viewing during library hours.  Please do yourself a favor and come take a look!  The heart and soul all these students poured into their work is awesomely inspiring! 

Mark your calendar! On Monday, March 23 from 5:30 to 7:00 the library and the Friends of the Pearl Library, will host an official youth art exhibit night complete with a reception! It's free and ALL are invited!

Just so you know, the renegade balloon that deserted the pack on Friday, Feb. 14 is still hugging the ceiling. But don't you worry. That bad boy is traveling. It started out right above the circulation desk. It's coming down the other direction toward reference! We are watching it to see when it will make the great descent! LOL!

The Vision is 2020 at the Pearl Public Library!

December programming at the Pearl Public Library which included great crafts and a wonderful Christmas program, Christmas Carols with Santa featuring the Pearl Northside Singers, proved to be a strong finish for the year!

BUT the new year is upon us in just a few days! This is an exciting one too!

 2020! A WHOLE NEW DECADE!  WOOHOO!

And, as always the Pearl Public Library has YOU in sight and mind! The vision is sharp and so is the program lineup! All programs are FREE!

Simply Crafts offers a DIY project every first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m.  January's is a crafty Notebook Calendar on Tues. Jan. 7. All materials are furnished and no reservation is needed! 

BINGO for BOOKS is every second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. Come join the fun for the chance to win free books, DVDs and video games and enjoy light refreshments on Thurs. Jan. 9!

A great source of free entertainment is the Pearl Library's monthly Third Thursday Flicks at 5:45 p.m. January's movie is HOOSIERS featuring Gene Hackman on Thurs. Jan. 16! It's a free movie on the big screen and light refreshments come with it!

How-To Tuesday is featured every third Thursday at 6 p.m.!  For January's offering learn about the City of Pearl while playing Pearl-Opoly Tues. Jan.21!

The Holiday Season is Officially Here and the Quest for creative Ideas is ON!

That's why you definitely want to mark your calendar for December programming at the Pearl Public Library  - a craft mecca! 

As you struggle to try and figure out just what to get that special person, the answer is right here!

Let me just tell you that folks love getting homemade Christmas gifts! So, if you want to WOW friends or family, plan to come to Simply Crafts on Tues. Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.

Don't stop there though!  Kayla is Snowman happy! Her How-To Tuesday is on Tues. Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. Snowman in a flower pot made from a plastic spoon! HOW NEAT! All you have to bring is yourself! Everything is supplied. The program is FREE and no reservation is required!

Little 8-year-old mischievous Kevin McCallister (played by actor Macaulay Culkin) found this out the hard way in the 1990 Christmas movie Home Alone. 




Always in trouble Kevin wishes he had no family. The morning his family left on Christmas vacation to Paris, they accidentally forgot Kevin. So when he woke up to an empty house he was giddy with excitement at being home alone. That didn't last too long.  He had to protect the house from burglars and soon finds out there is nothing like family!

Great holiday movie. 

Ben is showing it on the big screen and serving refreshments too for his December Third Thursday Flicks offering. That's Thurs. Dec. 19 at 6 p.m.

It's That Time of Year and the Fun is Just Beginning at the Pearl Public Library!

Don't you just loooooooove this time of year when the leaves are fluttering to the ground so beautifully? The near 100 degree temps seem to be behind us, and the cool breeze just makes ya go aaaahhhhhhhh! 

LOVE IT!

It's also the time of year when we get a burst of energy and start thinking about maybe engaging in some crafting, fun programs and festivals!

Well you are in luck because the Pearl Public Library offers it all and at NO COST!

Just a reminder that the Fall Family Festival is Tues. Oct. 8 at 5:30 p.m. behind the library next to the Pearl Senior Center.  Costumes are encouraged!  It's a FREE, fun evening celebrating the entrance of fall with bounce houses, face painting and pizza, generously donated by the Pizza Shack of Jackson (Pizza available as long as the supply lasts.).  Oh yeah! That's like hitting the jackpot!

On Thurs. Oct. 10 you can hit another jackpot! BINGO! You guessed it. It's Bingo For Books at 6 p.m.! It's a free program. So, come on in, play the game, win some books and enjoy light refreshments!

Save some energy though to enjoy How-To Tuesday on Tues. Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. October's feature is Autumn Leaf Mason Jar Candle Holders.

No reservation is needed and all materials supplied. No reason to miss this festive evening and the opportunity to make yourself a gorgeous fall, decorative craft. Hey, this would make a nice gift for someone special too!

Saying Goodbye to July Only Means an Even Greater Month Ahead!

That's a sure bet when you are talking about Pearl Public Library programs!

So, how about we take a little stroll among some of the library's delightful, August offerings shall we? And, uh, remember the programs are FREE! Come on now! You know that got your attention! Hey, it got mine and I'm the one WRITING THIS! LOL!

One man's trash is another man's treasure. Ever heard that? Well, it's true when it comes to August's Simply Crafts. You'll never look at plastic bottles the same again! Come on by the Pearl Library on Tues. Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. and turn what you might have thought a useless, empty plastic container into a beautiful flourishing PLANTER!  Simply Crafts is every first Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m.

Plan on coming by the library two days later on Thurs. Aug. 8 at 6 p.m for everyone's favorite BINGO FOR BOOKS! It's such a fun time and a chance to win not only books, but DVDs and video games too! Light refreshments will be served!

All right! Let's get serious now! You must mark your calendars for this HUGE treat! Waffle House of Pearl is sponsoring the Pearl Library's August Family Night program - Back to School Breakfast - on Tues. Aug. 13 at 6 p.m.  Yes, you read that ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!  So, come on to the library and have some tasty breakfast for dinner.  And, uh, we talked about this earlier. It's FREE!   

Hey, a Waffle House breakfast just might want to make you phone home!  OK, maybe not, but it might get you in the happy mood to watch E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial! And, that's the Third Thursday Flicks big screen showing Thurs. Aug. 15 at 5:45 p.m. 
E.T. is the famous 1982 Steven Spielberg produced and directed American Science Fiction film about a young boy named Elliott and the lovable alien E.T.! Come on to the Pearl Library and enjoy the movie, popcorn and drinks!

Spielberg is simply an amazing artist when it comes to filmmaking, but hey there are all types of artist out there. You can be one too! That's right! How-To Tuesday, on Tues. Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. will let you do just that. This art stenciling project will allow you to let your imagination and creativity flow! How-To Tuesday is every third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m.!

So, come on now!

February Programs at the Pearl Public Library Never Disappoint.

From a great read to Bingo for Books to a Costume Pizza Party, and more, it's all happening at the Pearl Library! And, it's all FREE!

In honor of Library Lover's Month, the Chapter 1 Book Club will be discussing Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers on Tues. Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. This book club meets every second Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. No reservation or membership required. Just stop on by! They'll be happy to see you!

If a book club isn't your thing, come on by the library on this same night Feb. 12 for this month's Family Night program. It's a Costume Pizza Party with pizza provided by Pizza Shack of Jackson. It's first come first served! So, hurry on in and yes, any costume will do!

Or, how about a good game of Bingo!

 It's Bingo for Books on Thurs. Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. This program was brought back by popular demand. And, it is oh-so-popular! Bingo for Books is every second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m.

By the way, plan to come back the next Thursday for Third Thursday Flicks on Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. Watch The Notebook on the big screen and enjoy complimentary popcorn and drinks!  

That's not all! 

Don't forget about the 11th annual Come in From the Cold With a Good Book, the Pearl Library's big Library Lover's Month program. Get free cookies, donuts and coffee donated by Community Coffee, Dunkin' Donuts, the Donut Factory, Simply Southern of Flowood, That Special Touch Cakes, Sam's of Pearl and Wal-Mart of Pearl, on Wed. Feb 13 and Thurs. Feb. 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day!

COMING SOON TO THE PEARL PUBLIC LIBRARY!

     It's an exciting time at the Pearl Public Library with some new programs on the horizon starting in August!  

    Hey, it's a great time to be a baby!  Pearl Pee-Wees, will be held Saturday mornings, at 10 a.m., starting August 4, for birth to 24 months.  During the program the children will have two easy picture books read to them. There will also be songs and rhymes where the children can practice such things as clapping their hands, tapping their toes and recognizing shapes and colors with the help of their parents. The parent and child will experience an enrichment playtime which may involve playing with balls, blocks, scarves or even parachutes.  

    Give me a B - I - N - G - O! What's that spell?! BINGO for Books!  A great adult program that's back by popular demand! It will be held on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. 

    If that's not your thing, how 'bout relaxing with a movie? Got that too for adults complete with popcorn and drinks! Third Thursday Flicks will be every third Thursday at 5:30 p.m.  

    Hey, wanna learn some Spanish? Or maybe you already speak Spanish but want to learn English. You are not going to believe this, but the Pearl Public Library has that too! Spanish for Beginners, lead by Dianne Lee, a retired Pearl High School and Hinds Community College Spanish teacher, will be offered on Fridays at 10 a.m. starting in August.  

    That's not all! In addition to the already exciting Chapter 1 Book Club, which meets every second Tuesday of the month at 6 pm., a new daytime book club for adults is coming. The  Morning Book Club will begin Wednesday, August 1 at 10 a.m. and will meet every other Wednesday. 

     See, great stuff is happening at the Pearl Public Library, and you do NOT want to miss out! Remember all programs are FREE!
