Third Thursday Flicks for January is Hoosiers showing Thurs. Jan. 16 at 5:45 p.m. on a big screen.  Enjoy light refreshments too!

In this 1986 movie Hoosiers, failed basketball Coach Norman Dale played by Gene Hackman finds himself in this tiny town of Hickory, Indiana and with a chance at redemption.  

Hoosiers is a great story about a high school basketball team's long-shot attempt to win the state championship. The film is inspired by the true story of the 1954 Indiana state champions, Milan High School.

Nominated for two Oscars Hoosiers, also starring famed actors Dennis Hopper and Barbara Hershey, was hailed as one of the best sports movies of all time.

Come on in and be totally entertained with this big winner!

While we are talking about winning, don't forget about the January How-To Tuesday on Tues. Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. You'll get a change to learn about the City of Pearl while playing Pearl-Opoly!

The Pearl Library's February Library Lover's Month star event is coming soon!  

The 12th Annual Come in From the Cold With a Good Book, a huge patron favorite - when the library serves up FREE coffee, cookies and donuts to their patrons - is Tues. Feb. 11 and Wed. Feb. 12 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. All the delicious goodies are donated by local businesses thanks to Community Coffee, Sam's Club of Pearl, Dunkin Donuts, The Donut Factory, Walmart of Pearl, Simply Southern Cafe and Grill of Flowood and That Special Touch Cakes.

WOW! Lot of great stuff going on at the Pearl Library!

The Vision is 2020 at the Pearl Public Library!

December programming at the Pearl Public Library which included great crafts and a wonderful Christmas program, Christmas Carols with Santa featuring the Pearl Northside Singers, proved to be a strong finish for the year!

BUT the new year is upon us in just a few days! This is an exciting one too!

 2020! A WHOLE NEW DECADE!  WOOHOO!

And, as always the Pearl Public Library has YOU in sight and mind! The vision is sharp and so is the program lineup! All programs are FREE!

Simply Crafts offers a DIY project every first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m.  January's is a crafty Notebook Calendar on Tues. Jan. 7. All materials are furnished and no reservation is needed! 

BINGO for BOOKS is every second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. Come join the fun for the chance to win free books, DVDs and video games and enjoy light refreshments on Thurs. Jan. 9!

A great source of free entertainment is the Pearl Library's monthly Third Thursday Flicks at 5:45 p.m. January's movie is HOOSIERS featuring Gene Hackman on Thurs. Jan. 16! It's a free movie on the big screen and light refreshments come with it!

How-To Tuesday is featured every third Thursday at 6 p.m.!  For January's offering learn about the City of Pearl while playing Pearl-Opoly Tues. Jan.21!

Little 8-year-old mischievous Kevin McCallister (played by actor Macaulay Culkin) found this out the hard way in the 1990 Christmas movie Home Alone. 




Always in trouble Kevin wishes he had no family. The morning his family left on Christmas vacation to Paris, they accidentally forgot Kevin. So when he woke up to an empty house he was giddy with excitement at being home alone. That didn't last too long.  He had to protect the house from burglars and soon finds out there is nothing like family!

Great holiday movie.

Spelling THANKS Could Not Be More Fun!

That's why you should not miss the November How-To Tuesday  - or any program this month - at the Pearl Public Library!

Make your own Tin Punched Votive Candle on Tues. Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. 

Kayla has worked very hard putting this wonderful craft together for everyone to enjoy!  Which means she's eaten a lot of SOUP too! LOL!

WOW! Making this Tin Punched Votive Candle sounds like a cool craft trip!

Hey, while we are tripping hahahah, come by the Pearl Library on Thurs. Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. for a really funny ride! One of the best Thanksgiving movies ever!

Yep! A good trip is what Neal Page (played by Steve Martin), a classy executive, had in mind in Planes, Trains and Automobiles! But, what he got instead was complete chaos as he was thrown together with Del Griffith (John Candy), a bumbling shower curtain ring salesman, in this ultimate Thanksgiving film!

These two totally different men, not to mention complete strangers, encounter some hilarious, and some quite infuriating situations! 

But as life shows us oftentimes things are not as they seem. That's what makes the ending of this wonderful movie absolutely perfect for Thanksgiving! Just magical!




Ben will be showing it on the big screen at the Pearl Library for his November Third Thursday Flicks on Thurs. Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. He'll be serving refreshments too! 

FREE entertainment! Now, that's something to be thankful for!

November's Third Thursday Flicks, a Holiday Favorite at the Pearl Public Library!

You just can't beat famed actors Steve Martin and John Candy in this 1987 Thanksgiving comedy. 

In Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Neal Page (Martin) and Del Griffith (Candy) are two strangers that are thrown together by a crazy snowstorm during holiday travel. 

Neal an uptight, successful executive and Del an underachieving, really laid back shower curtain ring salesman, go together like oil and water! Needles to say that Del annoys the mess out of Neal! Even as everything that could go wrong does, and Neal's grip on sanity - from time to time - seems to be slipping, the two end up forming a heartwarming bond. 

A really great movie! Thumbs up all the way!

If you have never seen Planes, Trains and Automobiles, you'll have the chance on Thurs. Nov. 21. at 6 p.m. It's Ben's pick for November's Third Thursday Flicks. 

A funny movie, a big screen and refreshments. What could be better? Well maybe if it were free...

IT IS FREE!

So, mark your calendars and plan on coming. It's wonderful, holiday entertainment for the whole family!

Far Out Programs at the Pearl Public Library!

Taking it celestial September's How-To Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. is Painting Planets!

All you do is take acrylic painting paper, paint, Mason jar lids and, of course, a little imagination and there you have it! Galaxy art! 

If you are all about creativity and enjoying a relaxing time, this program is definitely for you!

The How-To Tuesday program, which is the third Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m., is free and all materials are supplied.  

But that's not all that's going on this week at the Pearl Library.

So, let's talk about really taking it out there OK!  

How about a dark, romantic comedy involving a 20-year-old boy and a 79-year-old woman. 

That would be Harold and Maude, the Pearl Library's September Third Thursday Flicks offering.

Harold and Maude directed by Hal Ashby was released in 1971.

A young boy named Harold Chasen (Bud Cort) is intrigued with death. He meets Maude, played by Ruth Gordon, at a funeral and develops a strong friendship with her.  Ruth teaches Harold the value of  living life to the fullest.

Far out, funny movie, on a big screen! What could possibly be better! And, it's free!  That's Thurs. Sept. 19 at 5:45. Refreshments will be served.

A Therapy Session Going to the Dogs, But in a Good Way at the Pearl Public Library!

Prepare yourself for a good time! 

A special Family Night program, Pizza and Pups! is on the way Tues. Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. 

Co-sponsored by Pizza Shack of Jackson, come meet Gunny, a gentle therapy dog, and enjoy award winning pizza!

Pizza and Pups! will be way more than just entertaining! It will be educational too! Learn what therapy dogs do.  

Therapy dogs have stable temperaments and are easy going.  They enjoy being petted, cuddled and handled! Therapy dogs visit various places like libraries, schools and rehabilitation centers. They are used to comfort people and give affection.

Pizza and Pups! is FREE and open to everyone! So, plan to come and bring the WHOLE family to see Gunny. He'll be the real star of the show!

And, speaking of a show, don't miss out on September's Third Thursday Flicks!

Harold and Maude is a dark comedy released in 1971. Come relax and watch  this FREE movie on the big screen, Thurs. Sept. 19 at 5:45. Refreshments will be served!

Almost Halfway Through August and Still Lots To Do At The Pearl Library!

You know.  The thing that makes the Family Night program - which is every second Tuesday of the month at the Pearl Library- really special is that well, it's for the WHOLE family!

That means August Family Night's Back to School Breakfast, Tues. Aug. 13 at 6 p.m, sponsored by Waffle House, is breakfast for dinner for EVERYONE!

So, come on in! The nice folks at Waffle House will be bringing a selection of breakfast items from their yummy menu, and it's FREE! 

Now, there will be a limited supply so be sure to get to the Pearl Library early!

Hey, nothing goes better with dinner than a movie! We all know that! That's why this is a great week at the Pearl Library. 

Following the Family Night feast on Tuesday is Third Thursday Flicks on Thurs. Aug. 15 at 5:45 p.m. 

Ben heads up adult programming at the Pearl Library and his big screen feature selection for this month is  E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial which came out in 1982! What a movie! Directed by Steven Spielberg, it's a heartwarming story about a young boy, Elliott and a kind alien E.T.! Light refreshments will be served!

August programming wouldn't be complete without a creative element! August's How-To Tuesday offering on Tues. Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. will not let you down! Don't miss fun stenciling using paper, paint, jar lids and a TOOTHBRUSH! Yep, you read that right! See! Creative! No reservation needed and all materials supplied!
