December Events At The Morton LIbrary

We have a lot of fun events at the Library this month!

We have a Gingerbread contest where you come into the library and pick up a paper gingerbread man and make it look like something other than a gingerbread man. They need to be turned in before Dec 20th for judging and the best one will win a small prize!

We also have a new take-home craft each week to be picked up.

The week of Dec 14th come by the library to pick up your little Christmas treat.

We have a ton of Christmas movies and books for you to watch this Holiday Season so come by and see what all we have available or you can go online and reserve your copies to be placed on hold for you.

The Elf on the Shelf will be up to fun and mischief from now until Christmas so come by the Library each day and see what he is up to and to fill out your letters to Santa! We have a magic mailbox that sends your letters directly to Santa!

We look forward to seeing all of you and we hope you stay well and have a very Happy Holiday!

December Fun at the Magee Library

Open Mic Night was a “Rocking” good time!
We had 12 people that performed at our Christmas Open Mic Night, Thursday, Dec. 13. The favorite song of the night was “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree,” performed by Julia Chencharick and then Walter Baldwin did his version of the song. We also had “Jingle Bells” performed by Danial Baldwin. My favorite was “Blue Christmas,” performed by Walter Baldwin. (Ok, now you know I am a big Elvis fan!) He also performed “White Christmas” and “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth” which had us all laughing. Joshua Wickes recited an Edgar Allen Poe poem entitled “The Bells.” We had a trio of boys who even tried to rap “Silent Night!” Everyone enjoyed it when the moms stood up and sang, “Dashing Thru the Snow.” The Baldwin Family did a great job on “O Come, O Come, Emanuel.”

There were a few people that performed more than once. So, we did not have a first or second place; instead, everyone that participated in the event got to put their name in a drawing for one of three $5.00 gift cards from Walmart and one $10.00 gift card from McAlister’s Deli.

The winners: Walter Baldwin won the $10 gift card, Danial Baldwin won a $5.00 Walmart card, Micah Floyd won a $5.00 Walmart card, and Julie Baldwin won the last $5.00 Walmart card.
Santa visited the Magee Library!
Santa has come and gone so he could get back to the North Pole in time for Christmas Eve! But when he visited the library, we had sixty-five little ones come to get their picture made with Santa Claus. While they waited for their pictures “to develop” the children had refreshments of hot chocolate and cookies. The children made a Christmas ornament to take home with them. It was a foam craft of a snowman holding a candy cane with the year on it to mark the occasion. We are already looking forward to next December!

Check out the fun things going on for January (Bingo, Tea & Coloring and Snap circuits).

Santa Claus is Coming to Town!

¯Santa Claus is com-ing to town¯
The children of Magee have been good this year; so Santa Claus is on his way! Santa will be here Saturday, Dec. 15 at 11:00 a.m. Each child will receive a FREE picture with him, enjoy his favorite snack - hot cocoa and cookies; and the little ones can make an ornament.

This is our third year for Santa to visit the Magee Library. Last year saw our biggest group ever. We want to make this year even bigger!

Santa Claus is Coming to Pelahatchie Public Library

We’re not sure if this has ever happened before - perhaps it did many years ago – but Santa Claus will be visiting the Pelahatchie Public Library at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 29.  It is just a short visit (5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) so make sure you mark your calendar.

Santa Claus will start visiting with boys and girls starting at 5:30 p.m. Photographs of your little one with Santa are allowed.  If you would like us to take a picture, we will be happy to do so.  We will follow up by emailing you a digital copy of the photo, so please be prepared to provide us with your email address.

In addition to Santa, there will be cookies and hot chocolate for refreshments (Ooh, wouldn’t that taste good today!).  So make plans to stop by Thursday, November 29, at 5:30 p.m.  Hope to see you there!

CRAFTING MERCURY GLASS IN PEARL
Oooooh, yeah, last night's Simply Crafts' group had to be moved outside. PRONTO!
Uh, huh... Yeah, apparently no matter how big the room is - the Pearl Library's meeting room is preeeeeeetty ginormous - spray painting indoors is just not a uh..cough, cough, excuse me... good idea. OK!

Eleanor learned that pretty darn quickly, and took it outdoors. Everyone had a great time turning simple glass into beautiful Mercury Glass (also called Silvered Glass) which sports that fabulous antique silver finish.
