July events at the Morton Library

                                           



Summer reading is still going strong! We still have a lot of fun online activities for all ages.

For adults, we have Blue Feather Bakery and fun crafts to make.

For Tweens/Teens, we have Who's Tail is it Anyway? Trivia.

We have lots of Preschool Story Times, the Hattiesburg Zoo, and the Mississippi Aquarium!

These are all great virtual events that you can enjoy as a family.

Our in-house Family Story Time is July 8 at 5 p.m. Be sure to go to our online calendar to register for this event or call the library at 601-732-6288.

June Happenings at the Morton Library

 



Summer Reading is almost here! Registration begins May 17th! We have programs and contests for all ages. We are virtual again this year but starting in June we will have our first in-person program! It will be June 10th at 5 p.m. and it will be a Family Story Time. You have to pre-register for this event and we can't have over 12 people per event. We are excited to have an in-person event again so be sure and call to reserve your family's spot for the event. All social distancing guidelines will be followed.

We have been reworking the shelves in the library to make room for all of the new books that we have been getting so be sure and come check out our new selections.

Fit Kits are available for checkout again! We have a lot of good choices of exercise equipment to check out.  Did you know we also have cake pans that you can check out? We have a lot of cute character-shaped cake pans and regular cake pans that you can check out like a book. This way you don't have to buy a pan to just use one time.

May Events at the Morton Library

We are all set up early for Summer Reading! Please come by and see our amazing jungle! With the Summer theme being Tails and Tales we decided to go Jungle! We have monkeys, elephants, birds, and even a waterfall for you to come and see. May 7th will be the first day to sign up for Summer Reading so be sure and come by and get signed up to be entered into all of our programs and contests.



Summer Reading will officially begin June 1st. We think this will be a fantastic summer theme with lots of amazing things to make and do.

May 4th is of course STAR WARS DAY! May the Fourth be with you! Come check out Star Wars movies and books to make it a fun family day.

And don't forget all of our special Mothers on May 9th for Mother's Day! We have take-home crafts to make for Mom.  Be sure and do something special for her even if it's just to help around the house. A hug is worth more than anything you could buy.

April at the Morton Library


 If you need to try and find something new to read, stop by the library and pick a book from the jar to try.  They are color-coded by genre of the book or just grab one for something totally different.  We will also be having National Library Week so we will be having a lot of great activities online for all ages.  We will also have take-home crafts to pick up in the library for all ages and even a family craft for the whole family to make together. Come check out a family movie and make some snacks and spend quality time together as a family! 

We would like to thank all of our Friends of the Morton  Library for all that they do for us all year long and would like to invite others to become a Friend of the Library and receive special library benefits and help to make our library the best it can be! We need your help to do this! Memberships can be picked up at the library. The enrolment fee for joining is Students $1, individuals $5, family $10, and a business $25 per year. This is a great way to help out your local library!

We are slowly trying to update the inside of the library to make it more enjoyable for you so come by and see the progress!

March Events For The Morton Library

 The month of March is always a fun month!

It is Dr. Seuss's Birthday and Read Across America!  We have a lot of fun planned with Dr. Seuss crafts to pick up at the library and Don't forget to come check out all of your favorite Dr. Seuss books!  We all love Dr. Seuss and all of his books so make this a fun day! 

St Patrick's Day is March 17th so don't forget to wear green!

March 20th is the first day of  Spring! I know we are all ready for it!  Plan on doing something fun outside or come to the Library and check out our books on Spring flower planting. This is the time to get all of our gardens and flower beds ready for summer. 

Our Adult Online Event is With Brian Easterling a former champ on the Forged in Fire T.V. show. Be sure to go online and watch his demonstrations. The video will be online all month.

January Events for The Morton Library


       

   Just because Christmas is over doesn't mean all of the excitement is gone.
At the Morton Library, we are still reading, making crafts, and having contests! 
We have fun crafts to be picked up for our take-home crafts this month.
We are also having another fun contest! This one will show all of your creative talents!
It's making a snowman! The only rules are that it can't contain anything that will go bad or melt and it needs to be no taller than 24 inches high. Other than that let your imaginations run wild and see who can create the best snowman. So let the contest begin and may the best snowman win! Bring your snowman to the library no later than Jan 17th . The winner will be picked that afternoon. A small prize will be given.

   We have a great event for adults online this month. It is an interview with  Author Randy Pierce.
It will be a zoom talk on January 21 at 3:00 p.m. He is the author of the book Missy. Please join in 
and hear all about him.

Don't forget to return any books that you may still have at home from prior to covid, we are relieving
fines right now so please return any books you may have and we will take care of the fine for you.

December Events At The Morton LIbrary

                                                     
We have a lot of fun events at the Library this month!

     We have a Gingerbread contest where you come into the library and pick up a paper gingerbread man and make it look like something other than a gingerbread man. They need to be turned in before Dec 20th for judging and the best one will win a small prize!

 We also have a new take-home craft each week to be picked up. 

The week of Dec 14th come by the library to pick up your little Christmas treat.

We have a ton of Christmas movies and books for you to watch this Holiday Season so come by and see what all we have available or you can go online and reserve your copies to be placed on hold for you.

The Elf on the Shelf will be up to fun and mischief from now until Christmas so come by the Library each day and see what he is up to and to fill out your letters to Santa! We have a magic mailbox that sends your letters directly to Santa!

October Events at the Morton Library

 


      We are ready for Halloween at the Morton Library!  Be sure to come by on Oct 30th for Trick or Treating.  Come by anytime to pick up your treat bag.

     We also have fun stories and crafts online that you can make at home. There is something for all ages, even adults! We may not be able to have events in the library yet but there is plenty to do online, including resources to help you with your homework, school projects or making a new resume. Check out all of these ideas at CMRLS.LIB.MS.US. 

      We also have some fun Teen events going on for Teentober this month.

We have a  write and illustrate your own Halloween Graphic Novel contest  (pg13 rated please) and Write your own Scary Halloween story. The best of each category will win a small prize. Plus we are having an art contest to re-design our Acorn Children's library cards. You must be between 5-18 years old. Come by the library to pick up a registration form for this contest. The winner will win a $50 gift card!

Morton Happenings For February

The month of February is Library Lovers Month! Come check out your favorite Romantic movie or book. We would also love to know why you Love our Library. Come in and fill out a heart to decorate our windows. 

Our events for February are February 6 at 5 p.m. We will be having Valentine's Day Family Story Time! Come join us and listen to stories and make a cute craft. It is fun for the whole family.

February 13 at 3:30 p.m. We will be having a teen Yu-Gi-Oh TournamentThere will be no card trading. Just bring your cards to come and have a good time.

February 20. We will be having a Morton Library Cook-Off!
It is for the whole family, just bring your favorite dish or dessert and we will hand out tickets to all
the patrons that come in and they can sample the foods and pick which one they think is best. The person with the most tickets at the end of the day will win the GoldenWisk Award!

On February 27 at 5p.m., for K-6. We will be having a beginner How to Draw class.

Every Friday morning, 10 to 11:00 a.m., we have Adult Coffee. Please come join us. This is a good opportunity to get out of the house and have coffee and board games.

It's SANTA CLAUS!
Come see Santa and have your picture made.
You can make your own pictures for free or
we can make them for $1 with proceeds going to 
the Friends of the Library.
After pictures we will make an ornament craft.
Bring the whole family!
Also come check out our Whoville!


December 19
We will be having a Dungeons and Dragons game
for Teens.
It will be from 3-4 p.m.

August Events for the Morton Library

It's Back to School Time!


             Be sure to come by  the library and check out our large selection of AR books
                      to help you get a head start on your AR reading for school.

Don't forget that every Tuesday morning at 10:30 we have Story Time for ages 3-5

Our themes for August are:
Aug. 6:  The Ocean
Aug 13:  Dinosaurs
Aug 20: School
Aug 27: All About Me

Events for K-6 Grade are:
Aug 15: Making shaving cream art paper at 5 p.m.

Events for Tweens are:
Aug 15: Painting With Your Feet at 5 p.m.

We also have an Adult event this month
Aug 22:  We will be painting coffee cups at 5.m.
             Due to limited supplies please sign up for this event prior to Aug 22.

The Friends of the Morton Library will be having a Silent Auction during the month of August
at the Library.  All proceeds go to the Friends of the Morton Library.
So come by and bid on some great items and help support your local library!

June Summer Library Programs for Morton Library

Summer is upon us and we are ready for our AMAZING Summer Programs!
The theme this summer is A Universe Of Stories so we are exploring space,
planets, aliens and getting ready for a great summer.


Every Tuesday Morning At 10:30 we will have
  Pre-School Storytime
June 4th: Space Ships
June 11th: Alien Crafts
June 18th: Rockets
June 25th: Aliens

K- 6th Grade
June 6th: The Farm Bureau will be here at 2 pm
June 13th: The CMRLS Puppets will be here at 2 pm
June 20th: We will be making an Alien Craft at 5 pm
June  27th: We will be having a very special event at 2 pm!
We will have a LIVE  feed from the NASA Space Station
with the Astronauts! 
We will also be making Galaxy Slime.
( while supplies  last)
This event will last approx. 1 1/2 hours

Teen
June 20th: We will be making Galaxy Snow Globes at 2 pm
( you have to sign up for this event ahead of time .)

Family
June 6th:  At 5 pm The Hattiesburg Zoo will be here.
We will have live animals and a great time.

Merry March Events at the Morton Library


February has flown by, and so have our wonderful February programs. The kids really enjoyed making Valentine’s Day cards to send to hospitalized veterans. Below are just a few of the cards that were made.

If you missed our February programs, that is okay because the Morton Library has many fun and exciting events planned for everyone to enjoy.

As usual we have Preschool Story Time every Tuesday morning at 10:30. This month's themes are:
March 5th: Dr. Seuss
March 12th: St. Patrick's Day
March 19th: Rabbits
March 26th: Llamas

So, bring your little ones and join us for stories, music, and crafts!

March 4-9 is Teen Tech week and we will be participating by hosting an Engineering Challenge! During the challenge each team will be designing a tower made from dried spaghetti and marshmallows; the team who builds the tallest standing tower will win a small prize. The Engineering Challenge will be held March 7th at 5:00 p.m.

March is also the birth month of beloved author Dr. Seuss, and we would like to celebrate with a birthday party. Join us March 14th at 5:00 p.m. to celebrate Dr. Seuss with crafts and snacks!

Family Bingo Night is back by popular demand! Join us March 21st at 5:00 p.m. to play the classic game of Bingo and win some prizes.

Remember our Library Lover’s Month gift basket drawing will be March 1st, so come by and get your name in the drawing to win!

Happy New Year from the Morton Public Library!


We hope everyone had a happy and safe Christmas. We are very excited for a new year and to have new programs for everyone to enjoy!

Preschool Story Time is every Tuesday morning at 10:00. Bring your little ones, and join us for stories, music, dancing, and crafts!

January’s themes are:
  • January 8th: Winter 
  • January 15th: Snow 
  • January 22nd: Snowmen 
  • January 29th: Frosty the Snowman 
Do you ever wish you could bring snow inside? With snow dough, you can! It's cold, squishy, moldable, and feels just like snow! So join us, January 3 at 5:00 p.m. for K-4th grade Craft Night to make snow dough! All supplies will be provided.

We will be having Tween Craft Night on January 10 at 5:00 p.m.! The tween group is grades 5-8. We will be making art using old CDs! You can make a winter themed CD, such as a snowman, or you can let your imagination run wild and come up with your own unique design! This event is free, and all supplies will be provided.

January 24, 4:30 p.m. we will be having Family Movie Night!
We will be watching "Disney's Christopher Robin" Produced by Walt Disney Pictures. Rating is (PG) Run time is 2 hours. This is a free event. Popcorn and soda will be provided while supplies last!

November Events at the Morton Library

November officially kicks off the holiday season, and we are very excited! We have been decorating the library for fall, and all our November events will be centered around fall or Thanksgiving!

Preschool Story Time

We always have so much fun at story time, and this month are themes are fall and Thanksgiving! Bring your little ones, and join us for stories, music, dancing, and crafts! Story Time is held in the meeting room every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
This month's themes are:
 November 6th: Scarecrows
November 13th: Turkeys
November 20th: Happy Thanksgiving
November 27th: Fall

K-6th Grade and Teen

We will be having a K-6th grade Craft Night on November 15 at 5:00p.m. We will be making birdfeeders using pinecones.
We will also have a Teen Craft Night on November 29 at 5:00 p.m. We will be making our own fall bookmarks.

Friends of the Library Meeting

The Morton Friends of the Library will hold a meeting on November 20 at 12:00 p.m. in the Morton Library meeting room. If you wish to become a friend of the library please join in on this meeting or come to the library for more information.

Coming to the Morton Library in November.

October is winding down, and November is just around the corner. First of all, we would like to congratulate our Teen Read Week Bookmark Contest winner!


 

We would also like to give a big thank you to Sonic in Morton for the very generous donation of a gift card for the prize!

This month we will be having a carnival program that we are very excited about! We would love to make it an annual event if we have a good response this year. So, read on to find out more!


Candy Carnival

We will be celebrating International Games week by having our first Candy Carnival on November 8 at 5:00 p.m. We will have games, such as, bowling, fishing, dart games, bean bag toss, and pin the nose on the clown. We will also have popcorn, drinks, prizes, and of course, you can’t have a candy carnival without candy! So, bring the family and join us for some old-fashioned carnival fun!

It's National Library Week and one local business is showing support for their Library by  giving FREE Ice Cream to customers ordering the Lunch Special and showing their Library card! What a treat!
