Spring Greetings!

The winter months are finally over here at the Rez and the librarians are looking forward to the return of the warmer and longer days of spring. We hope that all of our patrons are ready for the fun and exciting events that we have planned at the Reservoir Library.

Read Across America

Come by the library Monday, March 2nd from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., for a special Read Across America story time as we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss. We will read some of our favorite Dr. Seuss books and have a birthday party!

Mile March Madness

Come to the library Thursday, March 27th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. to join us for our Mile March Madness. To celebrate the arrival of spring and our beautiful surroundings, we will be walking on the Reservoir Botanical Garden path during the noon hour. We will also have a special Mile March Madness drawing for a gift card.

Loose Knit Group

Are you a master knitter who is looking to pass on your knowledge to a new generation of knitters? Are you a beginner who is looking to learn from master knitters? Come by the Library every Tuesday during March from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. All experience levels are welcome as we work on our own projects.

High Noon Book Club

Join us at the library Tuesday, March 19th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. as the High Noon Book Club has its March meeting. We will be reading the book An Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor. All patrons are invited to bring a brown bag lunch and participate in the discussion.  Dessert will be provided.

Spring Break

March 9th through March 13th is Spring Break for our Rankin County students. Come by the Library to get your Spring Break Reads!


We hope that all of our patrons have a great and happy month of March! With the weather getting warmer and the days getting longer we hope that all of our patrons will come in and get some great books and movies as they get ready to enjoy the spring weather!

December Happenings at the Rez

December Greetings!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year from the librarians at the Northwest Point Reservoir Library! We are busy making holiday plans with family and friends. While we may be busy, we always look forward to seeing our patrons come in to check out the latest books and movies that we have to offer!

Special Holiday Hours 
All CMRLS Libraries will be closing on Monday, December 23rd, at 3:00 p.m., for the Christmas Holiday.  Normal hours of operation will begin Thursday, December 26th. We want to thank our patrons for their continued support.

New Years Holiday Closing 

All CMRLS Libraries will close at 3:00 p.m., on Tuesday,  December 31st, and remain closed until Thursday, January 2nd, for the New Year's holiday. We hope all our patrons have a safe and happy holiday season.

Santa Claus is Coming to The Rez

Are you ready for Christmas time?! Wanting to visit with Santa Claus before his long awaited Christmas Eve flight? Come by the Library Thursday, December 19th, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., as we welcome Santa Claus for a last minute visit before he makes his Christmas Eve journey! Bring your wish list and enjoy some Christmas Cookies with Santa!


Christmas Movie Matinee  


Join us at the library Thursday, December 12th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., for a special Christmas showing of the classic movie, "The Polar Express".  The movie, produced in 2004, is rated (G) and is 1 hour and 40 minutes long.  Free popcorn will be provided courtesy of the Friends of the
Reservoir Library while supplies last.

High Noon Book Club 

Join us at the library Thursday, December 19th, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., for another hour of fine dining and even finer literature as the High Noon Book Club has its December meeting! To celebrate the holiday spirit we will be reading an early John Grisham work, "Skipping Christmas". We will also be voting on the first book of the year 2020! All patrons are welcome to attend and encouraged to bring a sack lunch.  A holiday themed dessert will be provided.

Mugshots Family Trivia 

Are you a Trivia Master looking for their next exciting game to conquer? Are you new to trivia and wanting to get more involved? Come to Mugshots in Flowood for another exciting game of family friendly pub trivia hosted in partnership by the Northwest Point Reservoir Library and the G. Chastaine Flynt Memorial Library in Flowood. All experience levels are welcome!

Are you a master knitter who is looking to pass their knowledge to a new generation of knitters? Are you a beginner who is looking to learn from master knitters? Goodbye to Uno!

Our library goldfish, Uno, decided to leave the library where he has seen many patrons come to  check out books and movies. His last day with the library was Halloween day. He wanted to wish all of his friends a safe and happy New Year! 

July Greetings from Reservoir Library

The librarians at the Northwest Point Reservoir Library have been busy with Summer Library Programs this year! We have had so much fun with learning about outer space and participating in our reading program with all our performers and their shows. We hope that our patrons have had as much fun as we have during this summer and eagerly look forward to next year's Summer Library Program.

Summer Bird Watching

  

Are you interested in the various different kinds of birds that live around the Ross Barnett Reservoir? Are you wanting to see if there are any feathered visitors from other parts of the country? Come by the Northwest Point Reservoir Library to take part in our daily bird watching! We will have binoculars for patrons to use to watch for the different breeds of birds that call the Rez home as well as those who are only stopping for a brief in-flight rest.

Do you have fond memories of July 4th? Was your day filled with hot dogs, swimming, and fireworks? Stop by the Northwest Point Reservoir Library during the month of July to tell us your favorite memories of July 4th! The contest goes from July 1^st through the 31^st. The winner will receive a gift card to a local restaurant!

Mugshots Family Trivia Night 

Are you a trivia master looking for their next game to conquer? Are you a complete newbie to the game of trivia and wanting to know how the game is played? Come join us for Mugshots Family Trivia Night July 16^th @ 6:30 p.m. for another exciting night of great trivia courtesy of G. Chastaine Flynt Memorial Library and the Northwest Point Reservoir Library.  We look forward to seeing you there! 

High Noon Book Club 

Join us Thursday July 18^th at 12:00 p.m. for another meeting of the High Noon Book Club! This month we will have a "Book Report Meeting." All participants are encouraged to read a book of their own choosing and then give a report on it and we will choose the next book to read for the next meeting.  All participants are encouraged to bring their own brown bag lunch. Desserts will be provided courtesy of the Northwest Point Reservoir Library.  All who attend are also welcomed to bring any desserts. We hope to see you there!

A Tour of the Solar System 

Have you ever wanted to take a trip to the stars? Do you look up at the night sky and wonder what it would be like to visit all the stars millions of miles away? Come to the Northwest Point Reservoir Library Monday, July 1^st at 1:00 p.m. as we take a trip to the stars with Dr. Cal DeWitt. 

Splashdown with the Reservoir Fire Department 

Wanting to cool down from a hot summer spent outside reading and watching the stars? Come by the Northwest Point Reservoir Library July 15th @ 11:00 a.m. for an hour of summer fun in the sun as we join the Reservoir Fire Department for a memorable day of water and games! We will see you there!

Summer Library Program

We hope that all our patrons have had a great and restful summer of relaxation and reading! The librarians at the Northwest Point Reservoir Library have enjoyed seeing all our patrons as they have come in and out during the Summer Library events. Summer Greetings

Summer is almost here.  The librarians at the Northwest Point Reservoir Library are excited that summer is just around the corner! We are also excited that our yearly Summer Library Program is fast approaching as well.  We have been very busy putting the finishing touches on our 2019 Summer Library Program, A Universe of Stories. We hope that all of our patrons will come to the fun and exciting events we have planned this year!

The Lady Auto Mechanic

Join us in the parking lot of the Northwest Point Reservoir Library at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 7th as we welcome Allison Walker, better known as The Lady Auto Mechanic.  Allison who is an ASE certified mechanic and the host of MPB's AutoCorrect will be showing us many car related repair techniques such as changing a tire, checking the oil, checking the cabin air filter and many more helpful tips!  This is the perfect time to get the old family truckster ready for the big road trip or even just get the car ready for a trip to the local grocery store! 

Zombie Awareness Month

Have you been following the news lately? The signs are everywhere! Be alert and be prepared as we ring in Zombie Awareness Month. Stop by the Northwest Point Reservoir Library to see our display on how to fight the undead when they rise!

Memorial Day closing
All CMRLS Libraries will be closed Monday, May 27th for the National Memorial Day holiday. Business hours will resume Tuesday, May 28th.

Loose Knit Group 

Are you a master knitter who is looking for a group of new knitters to whom you can pass your knowledge? Are you new to knitting and looking for a group of master knitters to pass on their knowledge to you?  Join us at the Library for another meeting of the Loose Knit Group. The group meets every Tuesday, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., as we work on our own projects and share our knowledge of knitting and crocheting.

Join us Thursday, May 23rd at 11:00 a.m., for a special Zombie Awareness Month showing of the hit movie World War Z produced by Paramount Pictures, rated (PG-13), and running for 1 hour, 56 minutes. Free popcorn will be provided while supplies last. 

End of School Pizza Party

Are you out of school for the summer?  Are you wanting to get summer started off with a party but not sure where to go? Come to the Northwest Point Reservoir Library on Thursday, May 30th from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., for free pizza, as we kick off Summer 2019! 

Mugshots Family Trivia Night

Are you a trivia master looking for your next game to dominate? Are you entirely new to the game of trivia and want to learn how it is played? Join us Tuesday, May 21st from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Mugshots of Flowood, for another exciting evening of good food and even better trivia! Free Rotel Dip will be provided courtesy of Mugshots of Flowood! We cannot wait to see you there!

Keep the Rez Beautiful Nature Walk 

 Are you ready to spend time in the warm summer sun after spending months inside this past winter? Join us Wednesday, May 15th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., as we kick off the summer with some outdoor fun. We will tour the Reservoir Botanical Gardens with Jeannine May from Keep the Rez Beautiful.  Along the way, we will see the many different kinds of natural habitats that the Botanical Gardens have to offer. Feel free to bring your own binoculars to view the many animals and plants. 

High Noon Book Club

Join us Thursday, May 16th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., for another exciting lunch hour of fine dining and fine literature as the High Noon Book Club has its May meeting! We will be having a "Book Report" meeting. All participants are encouraged to read the book of their choice and then give a brief summary of it and tell why they liked or disliked it.   All ages are welcome and encouraged to bring their own brown bag lunch. Deserts will be provided.

Closing Remarks

We hope that all of our patrons have a great month of May! We know that this summer will be the best summer ever, filled with great memories you can look back on fondly years from now. Well, the holidays are behind us as we hurry on into the New Year of 2019! We hope that all our patrons have had a great and happy holiday season.  The librarians and our pet goldfish are back at work and ready to serve the public! We are ready to make 2019 the best year at the Rez!

Blind Date with a Book

Need a date for Valentine’s Day? Come by the Reservoir Library during the month of February to be set up on a blind date with some great literature! We will have the books wrapped in paper so that it can truly be a blind date. Remember no peeking!

Library Closings

The Reservoir library will be closed on February 8^th for staff development day.  We will resume normal hours of operation February 11^th at 10am. Thank you for being supportive of all our libraries in the CMRLS organization!

The library will also be closed Monday, February 18^th in observance of Presidents Day; normal business hours will resume Tuesday, February 19^th at 10am. We hope that all our patrons have a happy and safe holiday. We look forward to returning to serve our patrons after a break.

Mugshots Family Trivia Night

Are you a trivia master who is looking for a good challenge? Are you new to the entire game of trivia and are looking to get started? Come to Mugshots of Flowood Tuesday, February 19^th at 6:30 pm for another exciting night of trivia! Patrons of all ages are welcome to attend. Mugshots gift cards will be awarded as prizes to the winners and mugshots will provide free chips and Rotel dip for all patrons with a library voucher which can be picked up before at either library location or can be found on the tables during trivia night. Trivia night is brought to you by the G. Chastaine Flynt Memorial Library, the Northwest Point Reservoir Library, and the great staff of Mugshots of Flowood. We look forward to seeing you there!

Library Lover’s Month

February is the month of love here at the Northwest Point Reservoir Library, Library Lover’s Month that is! Come by the Reservoir Library during February to enter your name and why you love the Reservoir Library in our Library Lover’s Month drawing. The Winner will be drawn on Friday, March 1^st for two $20 gift cards at Mississippi Legends Grill. Just perfect for a late Valentine’s Day date.

High Noon Book Club

For the month of February, the High Noon Book Club will be reading the book The Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How it Changed America which is written by John M Barry.  This book tells about the history of the Great Flood of 1927 when the river overflowed its banks after a time of too much rain and the result was one of the worst floods in American history. 

The last book that the High Noon Book Club read was titled Dispatches from Pluto written by Richard Grant. The entire book club really liked the book and would recommend it to anyone who is wanting to read about Mississippi written from the perspective of an outsider.

The Book club will meet on February 21^st 12pm to 1pm at the Northwest Point Reservoir Library. All patrons are welcome to attend and bring a brown-bagged lunch of their choice. Deserts will be provided but patrons are also welcome to bring something with them if they would like. The next book for the month of April will be voted on towards the end of the book club meeting.  All suggestions are welcome and greatly appreciated. We will see you there for an hour of good food, good literature, and good friends!

Valentine’s Day Movie

Join us at the Rez on February 14^th for a special Valentine’s Day showing of the movie “Valentine’s Day”!!! Valentine’s Day tells the story of various people and how they spend the holiday of love whether it is with their loved ones or searching for that special someone who got away. Free popcorn will be provided while supplies last courtesy of the Popcorn Palace in Flowood. The movie will primer at 11 a.m. in the morning. We look forward to seeing you and your date there!

Lose Knitters Group

Are you a master knitter looking to share your knowledge of knitting with others? Are you new to the entire hobby of knitting and looking for more knowledgeable people to show you some pointers? Join our lose knitters every Tuesday of the month or a whole two hours of knitting and sewing. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own projects to work on.  This month the group will meet on the 5, 12, 19^th and the 26^th.  The group will meet from 1 to 3 in the afternoon. We hope to see you there.

 

Book Bubbles with Uno

Well, Uno is back from his New Year’s Eve Party! All the holidays have been great for Uno and his family. Like the rest of the library staff, he is back from his holidays of rest and relaxation and is ready to get back to helping the staff at the Northwest Point Reservoir Library serve the public and seeing the children as they come to visit the library.  While taking one of his bubble blowing breaks Uno and I got to talking about the holidays of the month of February and we realized that Valentine’s day was fast approaching.  Uno told me that his plans for Valentine’s day are to go out into the Reservoir to see his friends as they all go out to eat.  Uno wants to wish all his friends a happy Valentine’s Day and a happy Library Lover’s Month.

Parting Words

We hope that all our patrons have a happy Valentine’s Day filled with love! We want to thank all our supporters both here at home and abroad for their continued support using our books, computers, printing services, and various other services. We hope that you will continue to support all our libraries year-round as we bring better services to all our patrons through the Central Mississippi region and beyond! 

Happy Holidays from the Rez!

Are you ready for the holidays?! All the librarians are. We have been busy decorating and selecting books, movies, and many other library materials that we hope will help all our patrons pass the time as they gather with friends and family to celebrate the holidays.

Book Bubbles with Uno. Our library goldfish Uno has been very busy the past couple of weeks. What with reading his favorite books and working on his very own book he has had a lot on his plate lately.  He was taking a bubble blowing break the other day when he noticed the librarians here at the Reservoir putting up Halloween decorations. He asked us what they were for, and when we told him he jumped for joy knowing that it was the start of the holiday season! With that, he swam back into his sunken pirate ship home and got busy planning his holiday season! Like the rest of us, Uno cannot wait to see his family and friends during the holiday season.  He told me that his favorite time of the year was the Christmas season. It is during this time that he and his friends that live in the Reservoir gather together and exchange Christmas gifts with each other.  His plans for the holidays are to visit his friends and family in the South Pacific!

Veterans Day. On November 12, The Reservoir Library will be closed for the observation of Veterans Day. We will return to our regular business hours on Tuesday, November 13. We hope all our patrons have a safe and happy Veterans Day.  We would like to especially thank our veterans for their service to our country.

International Games Week. Let the games begin! Join us for International games week as we celebrate International Games week at the Northwest Point Reservoir Library. We will officially open the games on November 5th and end them on November 9th. We will have game for all patrons to play ranging from popular favorites such as chess and checkers to more modern favorites such as monopoly and Settlers of Catan! Patrons are also welcome to bring their own games to join in the fun!

Movie Matinee. Join us on November 14, at 11 am, for a trip back in time to the 1800s to experience an old-fashioned American Thanksgiving.  We will be showing the New Line Cinema production of An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving, which tells the story of a poor family torn apart by grief and loss. The only way for them to have a holiday is to enlist the help of their estranged wealthy grandmother to help bring them all together for an unforgettable holiday.  We will have free popcorn for all patrons while supplies last. All are welcome to come enjoy this timeless classic to start off the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving! We at the Northwest Point Reservoir Library would like to take a moment to wish all our patrons a blessed and happy Thanksgiving.  The Reservoir library will close at noon on Wednesday, November 21, and remain closed through Saturday, November 24, so that the librarians (and library goldfish Uno can enjoy the holiday with their family and friends. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, November 26. We are so thankful to all our supportive patrons without who this Library would not be here. Thank you for your continued support for the library and have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Trivia Tuesday! The third Tuesday night of each month, at 6:30 pm, we will test our trivial knowledge skills as we battle with others to win a gift card for Mugshots great food. If you are a Trivia master, then join us for the ultimate battle for the title of trivia king! Free Rotel for all and as always lots of fun and friendship! The next game is December 18, at Mugshots of Flowood.

Pictures with Santa! On Wednesday, December 12, at 3:30 pm, bring your Christmas letters to Santa. The Jolly man himself will be taking a break from his busy holiday rush at the North Pole to come visit us! Be ready to take plenty of pictures and ask him lots of questions about his North Pole workshop.  Parents are encouraged to bring their own cameras to take pictures of their children as they visit with Santa.

  

The High Noon Book Club. December 13, at 12 pm, we will hold the second in a series of book club meetings. Bring your favorite book and a brown bag lunch for a fun-filled lunch hour of reading and friendly discussion as we dive into the world of fine dining and literature. Deserts will be provided! This month we are reading the Richard Grant book Dispatches from Pluto, which tells the story of a young couple from the Northern United States who on a whim decide to move down to the small Mississippi Delta community of Pluto to buy an old antebellum plantation home.  While living their new lives as Mississippians they meet a colorful community.

This past month we read the book A Man Called Ove which is written by Swiss author Fredrik Backman.  The consensus was that the book does have a curmudgeon with a heart of gold as the main character and that it was a great book to start off the book club.  Of the nine people that were in the first meeting only one person generally disliked the book.  I would suggest this book to any readers wanting to start a book club but don’t know exactly where to start.  A Man Called Ove is a very easy read of only 337 pages and each chapter is like a separate story. An enjoyable book!

Loose Knit Group. Join us every Tuesday, from 1pm to 3pm, for conversation and knitting! Bring your own projects to work on as we discuss the events of life and work on our knitting and crocheting together. All experience levels are welcome.

October Happenings at the Rez

Introduction

I just want to take a moment to introduce myself, I am Nicholas Edward Parker. I am the new branch manager at the Northwest Point Reservoir Library. I have been at the Reservoir for a month now getting to know the library and the various patrons who visit daily.  I have been with the Central Mississippi Regional Library System for 10 months.  I look forward to getting to know each of my patrons.

National Teen Read Week

Join us for National Teen Read Week as we celebrate the week dedicated to showing teens across the nation the joys that only reading can bring! The theme for this year’s National Teen Read Week is “It’s Written in the Stars” In honor of this observance the Reservoir Library is holding a design your own bookmark contest for all our local teens! Please come to the circulation desk to get your bookmark to design your own unique take on the theme for this year. The Contest will be held October 8th through 7th. The winner will be drawn on October 15th and notify on the same day! The Grand prize is a jar of Halloween Candy! Good Luck to all our talented artist! May the best bookmark win!

Trivia Tuesday!

Brown Bag Book Club

October 25^th at 1 pm we will hold the first in a series of book clubs called the Brown bag book club. Bring your favorite book and a brown bag lunch for a fun-filled lunch hour of reading and friendly discussion as we dive into the world of fine dining and literature. Deserts will be provided!

Book Bubbles with Uno

Our Library fish Uno has had a very busy summer! Not only has he been checking out books to read at night in his sunken pirate ship, but he has also been in touch with some of his favorite authors over the summer with ideas about how they can better their books for their readers both fish and people alike. Come by the library to tell Uno what you would like to see in your favorite authors' books.

During the week of October 21^st through the 27^th, we want to thank our Library Friends Group for all that they do for the librarians who work in the libraries! We would love for you to join the Friends! Please stop by the Reservoir Library and pick up a Friends signup sheet to join this great group to give back to your local library. As a bonus, we will throw in some cookies to thank all our new friends for joining!

 Acorn Cards

During the month of October, we are starting a brand-new Library card! October 1st is the debut of our Acorn Cards! With this card, you can check out up to two items and not have to pay any fines for overdue items. We encourage all parents with young children to come to the library to sign up for one of our Acorn Cards. We also encourage our special needs patrons to register for one as well! Already have a library card but want to get an Acorn Card? No problem! We will be glad to change your account from a regular library card to an Acorn Card.  All fines from your previous library card will be waived when you sign up for an Acorn Card! During the first month, all names will be put into a drawing for a secret grand prize! What will it be? Who knows! Keep your eyes out for our library squirrel Acorn. She may be visiting her friend Uno while she is checking out books to take back to her tree to read!

Happy Halloween!

During the month of October come to the library to see our many Halloween Displays! The theme for this month is Spooktacular! Come to the Reservoir to see our very own Spooktacular display and log onto Facebook to like and share our pictures so that the Reservoir Library will win the first-place prize! While you are visiting the library keep an eye out for the pieces of candy that have been hidden throughout! Who put it there? Was it the ghost or the librarians? Be on the lookout for the many different ghost and goblins that visit the library as well during Halloween!

We have many fun and exciting events planned at the Northwest Point Reservoir Library for the month of October.  We hope to see all our patrons attend these events free of charge and encourage them to bring their friends and families with them as well so that they too can see the many services that libraries can offer them and the community.
