Free Online Tools
With your library card, you have access to an entire digital classroom, all completely free! Explore databases for science projects, language learning, and interactive tools for reading and math. Central Mississippi Regional Library System offers access to platforms like ABCmouse, Hoopla, CloudLibrary, Flipster, Comics Plus, Learning Express, Beanstack, Rocket Languages, and much more.
Programs and Events
We host a variety of educational programs that benefit homeschool families. Some examples of these programs are arts and crafts, creative writing workshops, book clubs, several different story times for a variety of ages, and history-themed activities. These hands-on events help reinforce lessons while giving kids a chance to socialize and learn collaboratively. Most events are free with no registration required. Library programs are a low-stress, cost-effective way to provide an educational, social outlet for your homeschooler. Find a full list of these programs here on our website!
Reading Challenges and Book Clubs
Encourage literacy and a love for reading with our various reading challenges and teen book clubs. These programs can add structure and fun to your homeschool routine while encouraging independent reading. We offer early literacy programs that encourage children to have fun while reading and win prizes, such as 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, 500 Books Before Middle School, and 100 Books Before Graduation all year round. Additionally, in the summer, we offer our annual Summer Reading Program! Come visit us at the library to use incentivized reading to promote literacy and win some fun prizes! More information about all of these challenges can be found here! All challenges are managed for your convenience through the Beanstack app!
Research Help & Study Spaces
Our staff is always available to help students learn research skills, navigate reliable online sources, or track down obscure facts for reports and projects. Use our library codes to access Mississippi's research database, Magnolia, to practice important research skills and have access to academic articles and sources. Plus, we offer quiet areas and free study rooms to help learners stay focused and productive. Several branches offer free study room use as well as free or cheap larger meeting space use. Contact your CMRLS branch for more details on offerings and availability for study rooms and public meeting spaces.
